Imagine having hundreds of interesting and inspiring opportunities on your doorstep. That’s campus life at Nottingham.
Alongside regular social events and live entertainment, you can also get involved in over 200 clubs and societies, attend evening lectures in a range of subjects, sign up for sports teams and meet friends in a range of bars, cafes and restaurants across campus.
Social scene
Our campuses offer great social facilities and you are welcome to use all of them. Bars and cafes on all our UK campuses are central to the University’s social scene.
On University Park, Mooch is a modern, light and airy bar offering a quality menu of hot food and drinks. Because Mooch is run by the Students’ Union, the menu comes complete with student friendly prices and special deals.
Aqua is a modern cafe within the Lakeside Arts Centre on University Park. Overlooking the lake, the cafe is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee and watch the world go by. From fresh panninis and deli-snacks to Moroccan couscous and warm goats cheese salad, Aqua’s Mediterranean influenced menu has something for everyone.
Our Students’ Union and PGSA run nights out in the city and days out across the UK, and the Graduate School runs a range of social events for postgraduates including a summer garden party and regular ‘coffee, cake and catch up’ sessions.
Sporting opportunities
Nottingham is well known for its sporting success and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
With 75 Athletic Union sports clubs, Nottingham teams have consistently finished in the top 10 out of over 140 institutions competing in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) overall league championship table over the last 15 years.
See sport and fitness for more information on how you can take part.
Arts and entertainment
Lakeside Arts Centre is based on University Park and is quickly establishing itself as one of the most exciting arts venues in the region.
Offering theatre, cinema, comedy, dance and visual arts events throughout the year, it is easy to get a culture fix without leaving campus.
The student-run New Theatre produces up to 15 shows every semester and offers opportunities to get involved in acting, directing, producing or as part of the theatre’s tech crew. Or, why not just enjoy being in the audience?
See arts and media for more information.
Clubs and societies
The Students’ Union runs over 180 societies and 75 sports clubs covering a huge range of hobbies and interests. You could sign up to try something new or pursue an existing passion.
See PGSA for more information.
Lectures and academic events
The University hosts a series of inaugural and public lectures. All new professors at Nottingham are asked to give an inaugural lecture in an area connected to their research. These lectures are a way for them to introduce themselves to Nottingham and to the wider community.
Public lectures are given by high profile guests from the public domain and leading academics from the University. They are open to staff, students and the public and are a great way to find out about other areas of work across the University.
The Graduate School also promotes a range of events that take place across campus – these include sessions with guest speakers on areas such as employment and events run by other organisations such as Nottingham Entrepreneurs.
Some events are only open to research students but many are open to all our postgraduates.
