Libraries
Our libraries house more than a million books and journals, as well as extensive manuscript collections and several thousand electronic journals and books.
We constantly update our facilities. Four of our libraries are equipped with Learning Hubs – centres that provide a modern and flexible learning environment with access to a wide range of information resources and services. They combine state-of-the-art multimedia technology with traditional information resources, and their layout and furnishings facilitate group work.
Every library has specialist staff who will help you find the information you need - whatever your postgraduate course. They are especially alert to the needs of people with disabilities.
All libraries provide lending and reference services and are open for long hours. At certain times of the year, some libraries offer 24/7 access.

A significant investment in e-learning opportunities and IT infrastructure by the University means that flexible research and study is provided through a Virtual Learning Environment, giving you 24/7 access to the highest quality study materials.
Rich, interactive online learning materials are provided using a variety of specialised production tools by a team of both technical and pedagogical experts to ensure the best online learning experience is delivered to your PC anytime, anywhere. Computing facilities
On every campus you’ll find the very best in information technology to enable you to study for your postgraduate qualification more effectively and efficiently.
Our campus network is connected to the UK-wide academic network, which connects the UK’s education and research institutions, as well as to national and international networks and to the world wide web.
We are also linked to other universities in the East Midlands via a high-speed metropolitan area network, giving improved opportunities for collaborative work and access to national computer centres with specialist facilities.
As a postgraduate student you will have access to the internet and the University’s network services, which include:
- central secure user filestore and email with anti-virus and spam protection
- computer rooms with printing, scanning and a wide range of standard and specialist software
- plug-in points and wireless hotspots for your laptop
- specialist applications software for research
If you have a project that involves computation or data-analysis, specialist staff can provide advice about these aspects of your work.
Computer rooms are sited across the University’s campuses, and together, these house approximately 1,700 PCs, most with 24 hour access. A number of laptops are also available on loan for use at the University’s Hallward Library.
