Some international postgraduate students require ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) clearance in order to study in the UK. If the course or research opportunity you are applying for is included in the scheme you will be notified with your offer.
You will need to obtain ATAS clearance before applying for your visa or extension of stay. Please be aware that possession of an ATAS clearance certificate does not guarantee you a visa or extension of stay and your application will automatically be refused if you need an ATAS certificate and cannot provide one.
To apply, you must hold an offer of a place at a recognised higher education institution in the UK. You will need to complete and submit a short online form; no additional fee will be charged for an ATAS application. The process can take several weeks so we strongly advise you to apply early.
When applying you will need:
- For postgraduate taught masters applicants: a list of the modules for your course
- For research applicants: a research statement provided by your selector/supervisor
More details on the ATAS scheme and access to the online application form are available at www.fco.gov.uk/atas
If you are made an offer by The University of Nottingham, this information and the JACS code for your course will be emailed to you by our Admissions Office.
