The School of Graduate Entry Medicine and Health is based on the site of the Royal Derby Hospital in purpose built accommodation which opened in 2003 with over 130 staff and 340 students based in the School.
The School provides a diverse range of postgraduate education programmes spanning Graduate Entry Medicine and has a strong record of providing high quality research projects for students wishing to undertake Masters or PhD programmes by research.
The GEM course is an innovative four-year, fast-track programme designed to widen access to medical careers for graduates from a wide range of professional and educational backgrounds. The course is open to graduates of any discipline who have or are predicted to obtain an honours degree at 2:2 level or above (or its international equivalent) and have successfully completed the GAMSAT (Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test). Successful GEM students will graduate with degrees in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from The University of Nottingham. The programme has two phases: an 18 month integrated programme designed to give students a broad foundation in basic and clinical sciences; and 30 months of clinical training attachments in hospitals located throughout the region in conjunction with students following the 5-year undergraduate course. Further information can be found on the Graduate Entry Medicine website.
Postgraduate research degree programmes are available across a wide range of medicine and health related areas. Academic staff within the School develop their research in close collaboration with international academic partners, with local partners in the UK health service and with colleagues from other disciplines within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and wider University. We have a reputation for delivering high quality research and providing research training to ensure our graduates have a range of transferrable skills for the work place.
