
The Department of Culture, Film and Media encompasses a wide range of academic activities, ranging from research institutes and centres to postgraduate teaching at PhD and MA levels and undergraduate teaching. It specialises in cultural studies, critical theory and communications studies, including journalism, and also undertakes innovative teaching and research at the forefront of developments in the study of film, television and screen media.
At postgraduate level, the department is responsible for a range of taught masters degrees, both full- and part-time, with an annual intake of some 30 students. The department also has a thriving community of postgraduate research students, with 40 students currently enrolled, either full-time or part-time.
The department leads the Centre for Critical Theory, and is home to the Institute for Screen Industries Research, benefitting from key industry links with Fox Searchlight, Dolby, and Lionsgate where internships are available. The department also spearheads The University of Nottingham’s lead higher education partnership with the British Film Institute.
