Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering

Facilities

We have extensive laboratories with equipment from bench to pilot-plant scale. We are one of the few departments in the UK with access to mass spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy and a ‘virtual-reality’ suite where you can construct and optimise your own complete processing plant.

Postgraduate students also have access to research facilities including a range of equipment, for example:

  • total organic carbon
  • strong acid digestion of rocks
  • research test rigs - multiphase flow
  • drop tube furnance
  • flows in pipe rig
  • microwave centre
