The Department of American and Canadian Studies is a leading international centre with a thriving research culture. At the forefront of developments in American studies, the School’s specialists work across cultural, literary and historical studies.

The Research Assessment Exercise 2008 showed the School of American and Canadian studies to be the strongest unit of its type in the country:

  • ranking it first in the UK in terms of research power
