Centre for Environment

The environment is the greatest challenge facing humanity in the 21st century. How will we sustainably manage our environment while at the same time allowing more and more people to enjoy the benefits of a prosperous lifestyle?

Whether we consider climate change, contamination of land, air and water, bad housing, or traffic congestion, it is clear that society has so far not succeeded in responding to this challenge. Addressing the environmental future will require unprecedented numbers of environmental experts across a wide range of disciplines.

The University of Nottingham has an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching in environmental science, engineering and policy. Various Schools across the University deliver well established and highly regarded Masters courses addressing the environmental questions of the future. The range of disciplines we cover reflects the truly interdisciplinary nature of environmental study. From environmental management to environmental law, from renewable energy and architecture to environmental history, from tourism management to environmental engineering, from social science to physical science.

The Centre for the Environment (CfE) provides a focus to develop interdisciplinary approaches
to environmental teaching and research within the University. The Centre actively seeks to work with others within the University and beyond, to promote an integrated approach to the teaching of, and research into, environmental issues that are relevant to the goals of sustainable development.
