Research opportunities in the School of Molecular Medical Sciences

The School of Molecular Medical Sciences (MOL) is one of nine schools in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Our school was established in 2004 and is based on three sites: Queen’s Medical Centre, the City Hospital and University Park. We are housed in the £25m Centre for Biomolecular Sciences which bridges the University Park science campus with one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe.

MOL is a dynamic, multidisciplinary clinical school offering innovative teaching and undertaking internationally competitive basic and clinical research. Our teaching covers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses from medicine to microbiology, oncology genetics and immunology.

High quality research underpins our teaching and the school boasts staff recognised internationally for their research in bacteriology, cancer, human genetics, immunology, haematology, pathology and virology. MOL researchers receive high levels of funding from the UK Research Councils and the European Union as well as charities and industry and have a worldwide network of collaborators in industry and academia. Our current external grant portfolio of over £22m not only stimulates our research but helps us attract and sustain a vibrant postgraduate community of approximately 200 MSc and PhD students undertaking a wide range of taught and research-based degrees.
