Theology and Religious Studies research areas
The department offers supervision for MA by Research, MPhil and PhD students in a wide range of areas: Old Testament literature and theology, particularly Pentateuch, Deuteronomistic history and the prophets; New Testament, particularly gospel of Matthew, reconstruction of the sayings of Jesus in the original Aramaic, and theology of Paul; biblical theology; ancient Judaism; systematic theology, particularly the theology of Karl Rahner, moral theology and English philosophical theology; church history in Britain and Ireland; religion and critical theory, particularly continental philosophy of religion; theology, philosophy, social and political theory; theology, phenomenology and metaphysics; theology, literature and the arts; Islamic theology, particularly Christian-Muslim relations; science and theology, particularly quantum physics and implications for determinism and realism; and ethics.
