Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) by Web-based Distance Learning Masters (MA)

Duration: 2-4 years part-time

Are you a teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or working in a related profession?

If so, are you:

  • keen to build on your existing knowledge and experience?
  • interested in improving your career prospects?
  • planning to take up a more senior position in your institution?
  • interested in researching your own teaching or applying for a research degree (MPhil/PhD/EdD) after completing a masters programme?

Our TESOL programme is designed to meet all these needs.

The programme aims to develop your critical understanding of recent developments in TESOL theory and practice and to stimulate you to reflect on your own teaching; it also prepares you to conduct independent research into teaching and learning. There are three core areas of study: ‘the language learner and language learning’, ‘applied linguistics for TESOL’ and 'developments in TESOL methodology’. In addition, a range of options are offered, providing you with considerable freedom in selecting course components to suit your individual needs and interests. We also encourage you to develop your own areas of interest through your dissertation research.

The online MA TESOL is delivered in distance mode and there are three start dates (January, May and September).  It is also possible to combine distance study with some face-to-face study on the MA TESOL course at The University of Nottingham or The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.
