This course has a start date in October
The curriculum comprises an intensive language course for absolute beginners. The Diploma focuses on acquisition of grammar and vocabulary, and on reading, comprehension and oral skills to enable you to pursue research in your chosen area. Contact hours are between 10 and 12 per week (depending on numbers) and you are expected to attend all contact hours. There will be assessment to test competence in these skills, including course work, written assessments and an oral exam. For your oral exam you will be asked to make a presentation in your target language in relation to your proposed research project for those continuing to full-time research, or on a topic to be agreed with the Diploma Convenor for those pursuing the Diploma only. This ab-initio course is aimed at students intending to undertake doctoral research in Slavonic and East European Studies (literature, history, politics, etc) and for those intending to pursue a language-related career as an interpreter or translator. See the information on the PG Language in Slavonic Languages on the Russian and Slavonic Studies website.
