Nutritional Sciences Masters (MSc)

Duration: 1 year full time, 2 years part-time

This course is aimed at BSc graduates in Biological Sciences (or related subjects) to allow them to specialise in Nutrition. It offers students an in-depth education in human nutrition covering the underlying principles and evidence base, defining concepts, theories and methods, and the current knowledge and development of the subject, within a research-led environment.

Students will develop a confident, scientific approach to answering questions through theoretical analysis, formulation of hypotheses, practical experimentation, data analysis and communication of results.


Entry requirements:Candidates will be required to have a first degree in a biological science subject (excluding nutrition or closely related degrees) with 2:2 Honours classification or above.
Other requirements:International students whose first language is not English are required to have the following English language qualifications before they can register on an academic programme. IELTS:6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element)
TOEFL IBT:87 with no less than 21 in listening, 22 in reading, 23 in speaking and 21 in writing

  • Researchers in the Division of Nutritional Sciences comprise a multidisciplinary team with skills in modern molecular techniques, biochemistry, physiology, dietetics and health psychology.
  • Research within the Division is divided into three themes:diet and health, metabolism,  ageing and diease and gloabl food security.
  • The School of Biosciences has consistently achieved high ratings in independent UK assessments of both research and teaching quality. The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) confirmed our top position in the UK in terms of research power and we received 23/24 in the latest Teaching Quality Assessment.
