Management Psychology Diploma (PGDip)

Duration: 1 year full-time

This course has start dates in September and January.

The PGDip in Management Psychology focuses on the contribution of applied psychology to our understanding and practice of management in organisational settings.

It builds on the Institute’s strong reputation in professional education in occupational and organisational psychology to offer a more specialised programme relevant to those who wish to develop careers in general or human resource management either in the UK or abroad.

This programme aims to provide students with:

  • a broad knowledge of applied work psychology as a professional discipline alongside, and integrated with, knowledge of core topics from management science and practice
  • the skills to evaluate and critically appraise theories and practice within applied work psychology and management science
  • an understanding of how psychology as a science can be used to solve business problems and make organisations more effective
  • an understanding of how core business concerns impact on the management of human resources in organisations
  • a knowledge of how business priorities impact shape and challenge the use of psychology by organisations
  • the skills to design and conduct independent research, and carry out practical work within an organisational context

Students on the PGDip who successfully complete and pass all their semester 1 assessments may, at the discretion of the Exam Board, be offered the opportunity to move on to the MSc in Management Psychology. This would involve completion of a project in the June - September period, but no extra fees shall be charged.

Entry requirements:2.2 (2nd class honours degree or international equivalent)
Other requirements:You need to have a good first degree but the specific discipline is less important. The main requirement is to demonstrate an interest in improving individual, team and organisational effectiveness, whether as a manager, HR specialist or consultant. Previous successful students have had degrees in Psychology, Business Studies, Law, English etc. You will, however, need to value an evidence-based approach and be reasonably adept or willing to learn about research methods, including some statistics. Mature applicants without standard entry requirements but with substantial and relevant experience may be considered.
IELTS:6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element)
TOEFL IBT:87 with no less than 21 in listening, 22 in reading, 23 in speaking and 21 in writing
