Facilities
The School is situated in a purpose-designed building, which includes the provision of the latest facilities for research into virtual realist and multimedia computing environments, as well as advanced teaching facilities and high-speed networking.
Laboratories
The School houses the following laboratories:
- The Mixed Reality Laboratory – this is a configurable studio space with equipment worth more than £2m. The Laboratory provides a home for interdisciplinary research into mixed-reality technologies.
- The Interdisciplinary Optimisation Laboratory – this carries out innovative, multidisciplinary optimisation research at the interfaces of Computer Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Nursing and Psychology.
- The Informatics Institute of Information Technology – the Institute forms part of the School and is responsible for the full- and part-time taught Masters courses in IT. It also supports research and development in areas of IT which are directly relevant to industry and commerce.
- The Learning Sciences Research Institute (LSRI) – this is a collaboration between the Schools of Computer Science and Information Technology, Education and Psychology. The LSRI researches learning and new technologies.

The School’s research structure centres around four well-funded leading research groups:
- Automated Scheduling, Optimisation and Planning
- Vision and Image Processing
- Interactive Media
- Foundations of Programming
This is a collaboration between the Schools of Computer Science, Education and Psychology. The LSRI researches learning and new technologies.
