This course has a start date in January
This accelerated, two-year postgraduate course is an ideal way for those who already have an undergraduate degree to become a qualified, registered nurse. It’s particularly ideal for those looking to quickly retrain for a more challenging or rewarding career. To support you, course fees will be paid for by the Department of Health (UK / EU students only).
We offer three routes for those interested in caring for adults, children or people with mental health problems. You can also progress to a masters award following this diploma after a short period gaining post-registration experience.
The course was validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council in 2009 and since then we have received four commendations, including one for working in partnership with service users and carers, local trusts, other healthcare providers and student representatives to develop the curriculum and for teaching. We also received a commendation for our problem-based learning approach supported by the development of innovative IT resources.
The course takes place at our Derby centre and will have aspects of shared learning with medical students.
Applicants are expected to have an honours degree (2:2 or above) and a minimum of five GCSEs including maths and English at grade C or above.
Adult nursing
Adult nurses work with people with diverse health conditions, both chronic and acute. They juggle numerous priorities and use caring, counselling, managing, teaching and all aspects of interpersonal skills to improve the quality of patients’ lives, sometimes in difficult situations. Work may be based in hospital wards, clinics or, increasingly, community settings and you may do shift work to help provide 24-hour care. For further details see the NHS Careers website.
