Forensic Psychology - top-up programme (DForenPsy)

Duration: 2 years full-time, 4 years part-time or a combination

The aim of the ‘top up’ programme is to allow postgraduate psychologists already holding a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited MSc Criminological/Forensic/Investigative Psychology to obtain a doctorate through applying their knowledge to practice with victims or offenders. These individuals will be eligible to fast track onto the two year doctorate component of the full DForenPsy course. Applications for the ‘top up’ doctorate are accepted throughout the year with a closing date of the end of February. Our courses start  in September each year. 

This programme is approved by the Health Professions Council (HPC) and accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and confers eligibility to apply for HPC registration and BPS chartered membership respectively.

Those applicants working in a forensic setting may use this setting as a placement, if appropriate.

Entry requirements:A BPS accredited Masters in Criminological/Forensic/Investigative Psychology, with a minimum grade of 60% in their masters research project, plus a Good (2.1 or 1st) Honours degree in Psychology (BA/BSc single or joint)
Other requirements:Alternatively applicants may have a BPS accredited Masters in Criminological/Forensic/Investigative Psychology, with a average grade of 60% (Merit) across the whole masters course (with a minimum grade of 60% in their masters research project), and at least a Second Class Honours degree (2.2 accepted) in Psychology (BA/BSc single or joint). All applicants MUST have at least 100 days relevant practice experience in forensic settings under supervision (voluntary or paid). All applicants are required to show evidence of an enhanced CRB check dated no more than 12 months prior to the start of the course.
