Finance and Investment Masters (MSc)

Duration: 1 year full-time

Course Content

You will study the following modules in order to develop your knowledge and skills relating to finance and investment:

Semester 1

  • Capital Market Analysis
  • Corporate Finance
  • Quantitative Techniques for Finance
  • Research Methods for Finance

Semester 2

  • Derivative Investment
  • Fixed Interest Investment

At least one from:

  • Accounting, Auditing and Control for Sustainability
  • Corporate Risk
  • Financial Econometrics
  • Financial Reporting
  • Industrial Economics
  • International Finance
  • Industrial Economics and Organisation
  • Management Information Systems
  • Quantitative Risk Management
  • Risk Management in Financial Institutions
  • The Economics of Innovation
  • Theory of Risk and Insurance
  • Venture Capital, Corporate Restructuring and Entrepreneurship

And up to one further elective module from the list of Business School MSc optional modules.

Please note that all module details are subject to change.

Over the summer period towards the end of the course, you will undertake a 60 credit supervised 20,000 word dissertation on a subject of your choice relating to finance and investment.

Course Structure

The MSc Finance and Investment is taught on a full-time basis over one year.

During this time, you must accumulate 180 credits to qualify for the award of MSc. 120 credits come from modules taught and examined during two 15-week semesters.

Each taught module typically consists of 10, two or three hour sessions. Assessment is a combination of individual essay or group project and written examination.

The remaining 60 credits of this course are allocated to an independent dissertation, which is completed over the summer period for submission in September.
