Advanced Computing Science Masters (MSc)

Duration: 1 year full-time, 2-4 years part-time

This advanced Masters Computing Science is designed for those who have already completed a first degree in Computer Science or a related subject. (If in doubt about whether you meet the entry requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us.) The degree prepares students for highly skilled programming careers in industry and/or research.

Subjects taught within the degree reflect the research strengths of the School of Computer Science, particularly in the mathematical foundations of programming, in automated scheduling and planning, and in interactive systems. The degree aims to bring students to the forefront of research in these areas, equipping them to take leading roles in software development where the demands of reliability and efficiency are particularly important.

Entry requirements:2:1 (upper 2nd class honours degree or international equivalent)
Including:Computer Science, Mathematics, Science or engineering disciplines
Other requirements:Evidence of programming experience (equivalent to the completion of an individual 20-credit Bachelors-level computing-science project) will be required.
IELTS:6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element)
TOEFL IBT:87 with no less than 21 in listening, 22 in reading, 23 in speaking and 21 in writing

Key facts

  • Overseas graduates of this MSc qualify for the UK Government Science and Engineering Graduate Scheme (SEGS) whereby students are allowed to work full-time in the UK for up to one year after their course finishes
  • The School of Computer Science received a first class rating in the last Research Assessment Exercise (2008)
